Clear resin can be used to create so many things. It is the perfect medium to suspend and highlight small treasures. Often used to create pendants for necklaces or charm bracelets, resin can also be used to create holiday ornaments or window decorations.

Step 1: Determine Layout

Fresh-cut flowers do not last very long, but pressing them is a fun way to make their beauty last. Lay the flower – in this case, dried blue thistles – down between a stack of books and leave for at least a week. Get the step-by-step instructions on how to press flowers >>

Step 2: Prep the Pan

This project uses a type of tart pan that has a removable bottom section. This allows the clear resin to be transparent and let light pass through. Take out the bottom and set aside. Turn the tart pan over and cover the bottom with clear packing tape, pressing it down well. The sticky side of the tape should be stuck to the bottom of the tart pan. Place the pressed flower in the center of the tart pan and press down against the sticky side of the clear tape.

Step 3: Prep Resin

Mix the resin according to the instructions on the package. This resin mix is equal amounts Part A (resin) and Part B (hardener). The plastic mixing cups have measurements marked on the side, which is especially helpful in making sure you will pour exact amounts. The resin will not properly harden if the ratio is off, so careful pouring is important!

Step 4: Mix Resin

Use the plastic stirrer to mix the two parts together for about five minutes. Mix slowly in a folding motion to avoid making too many bubbles. Let the mixture settle to release any bubbles for about 90 seconds. The resin mixture will be active for only 30 minutes, so be sure to have the molds prepped before mixing the resin.

Step 5: Pour Resin

Carefully pour the resin mixture into the tart pan and over the pressed flower. Multiple cups of resin mixture may be needed depending on the size of the tart pan. Fill the pan to the desired thickness of resin.

Step 6: Add Sparkle

Sprinkle glitter across the top of the resin to create a shimmer. Set the project aside on a flat surface to dry for at least 24 hours.

Step 7: Remove Back

When the resin is completely dry, flip the pan over and peel off the clear tape. Cut a piece of ribbon and use hot glue to attach it in a loop at the top of the pan. Use the loop to hang your ornament.
