Choose a stocking to make (each one is designed by an HGTV host) and download the corresponding template below. You can pick a stocking and find out which template you’ll need here.

For all stockings

Each template has four sections. Print each section on a piece of 8.5” x 11” paper and tape the pieces together to create the entire stocking shape. Cut out the stocking shape and use it as a pattern to cut out a stocking front and a stocking back from the material specified for your design.

For stockings using Template A

Step 1
As shown on Template A, fold a hem on the top of the stocking front and stocking back.

Step 2
For a fabric stocking, iron the hem in place. For a Tyvek stocking, crease the hem with a flat edge or your finger.

Step 3
Pin or tape the stocking front and stocking back together with the right sides of the fabric facing each other.

Step 4
Sew the two stocking pieces together (leaving the top open) using a half-inch seam allowance as shown on Template A.

Step 5
Turn the stocking right side out, then iron to smooth out the wrinkles. (You cannot iron Tyvek stockings.)

Step 6

For stockings using Template B

Step 1
Pin or tape the stocking front and stocking back together with the wrong sides of the fabric facing each other.

Step 2
Sew the two stocking pieces together (leaving the top open) using a ¼-inch seam allowance.

Step 3
To continue, follow the instructions for individual designs here
