If you’re looking to shake up your holiday decor without breaking the bank, look no further than a quick trip to the dollar store. Sure, the inexpensive items don’t always have the wow factor that you’re after, but with a few easy tweaks, you can make dollar decor look like a million bucks.

To dress up a large mantel, buy three oversized wooden ornaments. To prep, tape over any parts you wish to remain unpainted and remove any glitter using a damp towel. Once dry, paint over the ornament with white paint and let dry. Use large stencils and red paint to spell out “FA-LA-LA” across the three ornaments. Work into your existing decor by displaying directly to your mantel or stringing on garland.

Need to add a little holiday cheer to a table setting? Whether you need a place card holder, a napkin ring or just a festive embellishment, just head to the dollar store. Buy a pack of little gold bells, some floral wire and a roll of small festive ribbon. Thread the bells onto the floral wire so that every bell faces the opposing side of the one before it until you have about 5-6 inches of floral wire covered. Tie the wire tightly to create a circle and cut off the excess using wire cutters. Finish the look off by using the ribbon to tie a festive bow that covers the knot of the floral wire.

Picture Perfect Frame Ornament

Create a cute and meaningful ornament with a tiny picture frame and some festive ribbon. First, remove the back and glass of the frame, place the frame on a safe surface, and paint with gold spray paint. Once dry, thread a piece of ribbon through the frame and place the glass, your photo of choice and the back inside of the frame. Tie the ribbon off and hang right at the front of your tree for everyone to see.

To craft an adorable little snowman ornament, thread three small, white vase fillers over a metal wire. Use pliers to bend each end of the wire so the round fillers stay put. Finish the look by tying an adorable scarf around the snowman’s neck using red or green yarn and hang on the tree using a standard ornament hook.

Break away from the ordinary wreath and opt for something more creative. Paint a wreath form white and place on a piece of parchment paper once dry. Hot glue large snowflake ornaments all around the wreath form until fully covered. Once the glue has hardened, pull the parchment paper off the back and find the perfect spot to hang it.

Take ordinary glass candleholders to the next level of holiday bliss by spray painting them gold. Once dry, coat the entire surface with decoupage glue and sprinkle non-flammable gold glitter all over the surface. To seal, paint on another layer of decoupage glue. Once the glue has dried, place a small dot of super glue and a thumbtack in the center of the inside to make them extra sturdy.

If they have glitter on them, be sure to choose your work surface wisely, and begin using scissors to cut and tie the ornaments to one another using the existing string. Once you’re satisfied with the length, hang on a tree or anywhere else you like!

If you’ve always fawned over the intricate snow scenes and Christmas villages that some people are so fortunate to have the space (and the budget) for, you’re in luck. With a quick trip to the dollar store, it is surprisingly simple and inexpensive to bring some of that charm to a small space. Buy four large gold picture frames and remove the back and glass from each one. One at a time, glue around the inside of the frame and set the glass back in place so it will not fall out. Once that is done and the glue is hardened, create a cube shape by hot gluing the frames together at their edges. The best way to do this is to go one by one and firmly hold the frame in place until the glue has hardened. Once finished, place snow cover in the bottom and a few bottle brush trees for the perfect snowy Christmas scene.

Pillar candles are a surprisingly inexpensive way to add an elegant, cozy touch to your home. They are gorgeous when lit and can burn for hours without leaving a mess behind like other candles. With this quick and easy addition, you can dress your pillar candles up for the season and make an even bolder statement with a simple piece of decor. All you need to do is buy a piece of gold floral, cut the individual fronds off using wire cutters and tie them around each pillar candle using black velvet ribbon. The results speak for themselves.

To DIY the most charming ornament you’ve ever seen, buy a toy car or truck, a small bottle brush tree and some red-and-white baker’s twine. We painted our car using nail poish and small brushes for a more vintage look, but you can skip this step if your car is already in your color of choice. Use wire cutters to remove the wooden base from the tree and place the tree on top of the car. Secure the tree using the baker’s twine and cut off the excess using scissors. All that’s left is to hang it on your tree using an ornament hook.
