Note Card Bonanza

Learn how to add an embossed frame to your cards.

These note/greeting cards were easy to make but a bit difficult to write specific directions for because it’s a matter of seeing what you might have that you can cut up and put together with what else.

Our basic cards were made with what is a staple in most any crafter's stash — colored card stock. The decorative elements were cut from inexpensive (dollar store, craft store close-out bin, etc) note pads and/or stationery. In one case, the cut-outs came from gift wrapping paper.

The one embellishment that might be tried no matter what you cut up and put together was made with 1/8-inch-wide, industrial-strength red liner tape. The effect was most attractive.

Materials and Tools:

card stock
1/8" red liner tape
embossing powder
embossing heat gun
embellishments, gift wrap, old cards, etc.

1. Cut a length of the tape about 2" or so longer than one side of the area you wish to frame.

2. Peel the protective backing from the tape; then touch one end of it to the card and "dribble" it along the imaginary line where you wish it to go. This is tricky because it does not "dribble" as if it was a spoonful of liquid, but that is the hand movement you make to get the scribble effect.

3. Repeat this for the other three sides of the frame.

4. Sprinkle gold embossing powder over the tape. Shake off excess.

5. With a heat gun, emboss the embossing powder. (You can use glitter or micro beads and skip this step, too.) Your card now has a dimensional gold frame. Tear something pretty to glue inside the frame.
