Materials Needed:

  • 9 round cork trivets
  • 1/2 yard fabric
  • chalkboard paint
  • spray paint
  • staple gun or thumbtacks
  • foam paintbrush
  • removable adhesive dots
  • scissors
  • decorative thumbtacks
  • chalk

Cover With Fabric

Lay a trivet down on the fabric and cut a square around it, approximately 2 inches larger than the trivet on all sides. Trim edges and cut in at multiple points around the circle, coming within approximately 1/2-inch of the cork.

Attach Fabric

One piece at a time, staple fabric to the back of the trivet. Tip: If a staple gun isn't handy, use a thumbtack in place of each staple, being sure to press the tack firmly into the cork. Once the fabric is stapled all the way around, trim the excess. Repeat this process on two more trivets.

Paint Trivets

In a well-ventilated area, apply spray paint to four trivets. Set aside to dry. Cover two remaining trivets with chalkboard paint using a foam brush. Ensure that the paint covers the cork fully. Allow all painted pieces to dry completely.

Hang Trivets

Apply adhesive dots to the back of each piece and arrange on the wall. Add thumbtacks and chalk to complete your message board.
