Make Colorful Garland Wall Art With Origami Paper

Materials Needed:
- sewing machine
- white thread
- 182 sheets of 2" square origami paper in bright colors
- tacky glue
- 24"x1" piece of wood (available at your local craft store)
- hammer
- hanging bracket and nails
Sort and Match Origami Paper
Open the packets of origami paper and separate the squares by color. Each string of garland will be made of 13 pairs of squares. Pick up two squares of different colors and put them together with the colorful side facing out.
Make 13 pairs of origami paper squares. Line them up near your sewing machine to grab easily as you sew the garland.

Sew Garland
Outfit the sewing machine with white thread. Place the first pair of squares under the sewing machine foot on the diagonal. Use a straight stitch to sew the squares together down the center, corner to corner. Grab the second pair of squares and feed it into the machine, sewing corner to corner. Add each sequential pair of squares under the sewing machine foot to sew together.
After all 13 pairs of origami paper square are sewn together, trim the garland off of the sewing machine. Make seven strings of 13 origami squares.
Tip: Sew a few inches past the last square to leave room to vary the lengths slightly when hanging.

Glue Garlands to Wood Strip
Place a dot of tacky glue 4” from the edge of the wood strip. Place the string of the first garland into the glue. The top square of the garland should hang about 1” from the wood strip.
Move down the wood strip, gluing each garland about 1" apart. The second garland should hang down slightly lower from the wood strip. Continue with remaining garlands, varying the heights slightly and stopping about 4" from the edge of the wood strip. Let dry completely before hanging. When dry, trim off any excess string.

Hang and Enjoy
Nail the hanging bracket in the center of the wood strip. Hang from a small nail in the center of a blank wall. Accessorize with bright pieces to complement the colors of the hanging garland.
