Materials Needed:

Step 1

Fold and cinch cotton napkins in various ways—this creates designs once dye is applied. Use rubber bands to hold the folds in place.

Step 2

Make a bath in a small plastic tub with a liquid fabric dye, following the package instructions. Add a cup of salt, which can enhance the color.

Step 3

While wearing latex gloves, submerge the napkins in the bath, following the dye’s package instructions.

Step 4

Squeeze out excess liquid, rinse under cool water until the water runs clear, then use scissors to remove the rubber bands. Wash in cold water with mild detergent and lay flat to dry.
