Preparing the Bottle and Hose

Sam Henderson

Sam Henderson
Wash bottle thoroughly and remove label. If the bottle has been printed with ink, remove it with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover (Image 1). Remove the pump and hose from a bottle of lotion or similar bottle. Rinse the hose and pump thoroughly by placing one end in a bowl of clean, hot water and pumping the contents into another bowl or into a sink (Image 2). Tip: depending on the contents of the original bottle, this may take several passes.
Cutting the Hose

Sam Henderson
With the hose still connected to the pump, hold it next to the drink bottle and measure the distance of the tube so that the bottom of the tube will be very close to the bottom of the bottle when inserted. Note the measurement and remove the hose from the pump. Use the noted measurement to make a mark on the tube, leaving the angled end intact. Use a craft knife to carefully cut the tube at the mark. Re-attach the tube to the pump. Set aside.
