How to Make a No-Sew Sock Bunny

What You'll Need

tall sock
bag of rice
fabric marker
twine

ribbon
scissors
hot glue gun

When selecting a sock for this project, pick one without holes. Also, be sure to choose a tall sock (rather than an ankle sock), as you’ll need the extra fabric for your bunny’s ears and tail.

Fill Sock With Rice

To make this step easier, stretch the opening of your sock around a large cup. Then, pour rice into the sock until the rice almost reaches the sock’s ankle seam. Remove the sock from the cup.

Create Bunny's Body With Twine

First, tie off the top of the sock using twine. Be sure you pull the twine securely, and tie a double knot to ensure no rice escapes. Then, wrap another piece of twine around the upper body to create the head. Shoot for a 1:3 head-to-body ratio. Tie a double knot here, too.

Cut Ears

Lay the bunny on a flat surface with its head facing you. Then, cut about 1/3 of the ankle/leg portion off the sock. Note: I used a crew sock. If using a taller sock, you’ll need to cut more fabric. Set this scrap piece aside for the tail. Then, make two cuts in a V shape to create the bunny’s ears. Trim the ears to achieve the desired shape.

Create Tail

Cut the scrap piece from the last step into long strips. Set three strips aside. Then, divide the rest of the strips into pairs. Tie each pair together in the center, creating X-like shapes. Divide the X-like shapes into two piles, stacking them neatly, one on top of the next. Use two of the strips you set aside to tie each pile together in the center, creating two bundles. Then, use your last remaining strip to tie these two bundles together in the center. Don’t worry if your end product looks a bit messy — it’s all part of the appeal.
