Cinch the Skein

Use this strand to cinch the center of the skein by pulling tight and knotting, creating the look of two equal halves. Once the ends of the yarn are cut, one half will become the solid ball and the other half will become the loose yarn strands that will create the pom-pom.

Cut Ends

Once both ends of the skein are cut, the cinching strand will keep the skein intact while the yarn becomes loose and shaggy. Start cutting each end of the skein.

Trim Pom-Pom

When the two ends of the skein are cut, the strands will appear random. For a more uniform look, trim the strands to size in a ball shape.

Create a Hanger

Cut a 10-inch strand of yarn in a contrasting color, then loop it through the top of the pom-pom, knot and secure. This will be used to tie the pom-pom in place when you create your garland. Repeat the above the steps to create as many pom-poms as you want for a festive party garland.
