Felted Veggie Ornaments
Add some veggies to your Christmas tree this year.
You Will Need
A felting needle /felted balls /felting wool (for the tomato) /a garden pad /scissors /sewing needle /baker's twine
Felted Balls
All of these ornaments were created from pre-made felted balls for the base.
Adding Felting Wool
You will need to work on a thickly padded surface. A foam garden kneeling bench works nicely. Begin by wrapping the felting wool around the felt ball and inserting the felting needle in and out of the ball. Work your way around the ball moving the needle in and out of the ball until you are satisfied with the size.
Make the Top
Cut a felt ball in half and remove the innards.
Top it Off
Cut notches in the tomato top like so. Using the felting needle, push it through the tomato top into the base of the tomato. Continue this to felt the top onto the tomato until it is secure in all places.
Add Some Twine
With a sewing needle, add a loop of baker's twine to serve as the hanger.
Peas in a Pod
Cut a felt ball in half and remove the innards like so.
Add Notches
With scissors, add notches.
Put them Together
Overlap the halves a bit and top with some of the innards.
Felt Them
Working on the padded surface, felt the two halves together with the felting needle to look like so. See the tomato tutorial for felting directions.
Pinch the Ends
Lay the pod on its side, and felt the two ends together with the felting needle to add a pinched look to the pod.
Peas Please
Cut two more felt balls in half and remove the innards. With scissors, cut the halves into peas. With the felting needle, felt the peas onto the pod.
Add Twine
With a sewing needle, add a loop of baker's twine for hanging.
The Eggplant
Start with two felt balls. Cut one felt ball in half and remove the innards. Cut half of that felt ball in half again.
Form the Body
With the felting needle, felt the two smaller halves to the top of a whole felted ball. Shape as you go along.
Top it Off
Use left over innards from making the peas and the tomato top to form the leaves. Cut the leaves into shapes like so and needle felt them to the top.
Add Twine
With a sewing needle, add a loop of baker's twine for hanging.
Make the Carrots
Cut a felt ball in half. Remove the innards. Fold one half of the felt ball in half and needle felt it together to form the body.
Cut the Tops
Using leftover felt ball innards from creating the other veggies, cut two tops like so and needle felt them onto the carrot bodies.
Add String
With a sewing needle, add some baker's twine for hanging.
