DIY Beauty: Make Chocolate Coconut Body Butter

My hands will never be soft and supple. I work too hard with them, wash them too much and tinker in the garden too much. I wouldn't want it any other way, but sometimes, I need to apply a really nice, rich moisturizer that my hands are dying to soak up. It's not uncommon for me to have to apply three layers of lotion in one sitting. I thought that there had to be a better way. Perhaps, if I made my own all-natural body butter, I could use up less product, eliminate the "extra" ingredients, and apply a product that was beneficial for my skin.
I love using coconut oil for cooking. I even rub it on the wattles and combs of my backyard chickens to prevent frostbite. Most recently, as I worked the coconut oil into their combs and wattles I noticed that my hands too were reaping the benefits. They were softer and much less dry.
I came in from the coop and headed straight to the kitchen. I began tinkering with products from the natural food store. Finally, I came up with a body butter that smells just like those chocolate caramel coconut cookies sold by those girls in green uniforms! My nose was in heaven and so was my skin. I quickly discovered that a little goes a long way.
The body butter immediately began to melt as I rubbed it into my skin. At first it seems oily. But I kept rubbing and realized that within no time, my skin had completely absorbed the body butter.
This body butter makes a great homemade gift for friends and relatives that could use a little bit of pampering. Just be sure to keep a little for yourself!
