The typical plastic bins to store pet food are, well, ugly. After a few years of using one and adding three dogs to our house, we decided to upgrade. However, pet food bins found in pet shops are either not big enough to hold a large bag of food or they are crazy expensive. We found a solution using a galvanized trash can purchased at a home improvement store for less than $20.

Paint
Remove the stickers from the galvanized can and wipe it down with a damp towel. Spray paint the outside (Image 1) and lid of the can (Image 2) in a well-ventilated area. Let it dry completely.

Make the Decals
Plan out the lettering of your decals in a word processing program. We wanted ours to say “Kibble” but "Dinner," Treats," "Dog Food" or your dog's name would all work too. Print out the letters and tape to the vinyl side of the shelf liner (Image 1). Lay the shelf liner on a protective mat. Carefully cut around the letters (Image 2).

Position
Lay out the cut vinyl letters to make sure you like the spacing and position (Image 1). Peel off the backing of the first letter (Image 2). Place the letter on the painted can (Image 3). The beauty of using shelf liner is that if you make a mistake or change your mind about where you want the letters, they come off easily. Place the rest of the letters.
