Materials Needed:

  • wooden piece (cut to 2x8x8) or pre-cut plaque
  • dowel cap
  • small clothes pin
  • decorative wooden or metal shapes (a crown, finial, etc.)
  • black spray paint
  • small piece of burlap (about 1/2 inch smaller than the plaque)
  • spray glue
  • hammer and 4 small furniture tacks

Cut Wood to Size

Start with a 2x8x8 plaque that from a home supply store. Then, cut a few more copies in the same size. If you don’t have a saw you can purchase your wood at a home supply store and have them cut it there for you. The pieces are about 10" long.

Add Accents

Attach a dowel cap from a craft supply store to the top of a wood piece.

Paint the Wood

Take the frame with the attached dowel cap and the decorative wood pieces to a well-ventilated area and apply a few coats of spray paint to all. This project uses Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X in Canyon Black and Heirloom White.

Add Burlap

Cut a small piece of burlap that is about 1/2" smaller than the frame. You can get burlap at any fabric hobby or fabric store. Use spray adhesive on the back of the burlap piece and attached it to the frame.
