How to Make Dark Chocolate Belgian Waffles
This family recipe for light and fluffy waffles goes back many years. We gave it a twist by making a chocolate version sure to please everyone. Top with butter, whipped cream and maple syrup.
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 4 tsps. baking powder
- 3 eggs (divided)
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tsps. vanilla
- 1/2 cup melted butter
Separate egg whites from egg yolks into two small bowls.
Whip egg whites using hand mixer, then set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder.
In a medium mixing bowl, mix egg yolks, milk, vanilla and melted butter.
Gradually add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Use a hand mixer to blend.
Gently fold whipped egg whites into batter.
Bake in a preheated waffle iron, according to directions.
Finish with your favorite toppings.
