At Home With Krista Watterworth
Krista Watterworth is a television personality, interior designer and founder of her own company – Krista Watterworth Design Studio. One of HGTV's go-to designers, Krista shared photos from her Mediterranean-style house in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Fresh, Functional Living Room
Krista completely designed her home in record time – just three months. Her goal was to create a family-centered home that’s both fashionable and functional for her husband and two kids. It was important to her to create a space that worked for her whole family, but still showcased her sense of style. The designer chose durable furniture and treated fabrics that could withstand abuse and repel stains. Her designs are approachable, yet contemporary, casual and elegant.
Airy, Open Kitchen
Like the rest of her Florida home, Krista’s kitchen is open, airy and flooded with sunlight. “I’m a huge fan of operational as opposed to fixed window treatments,” she says. “Nothing should permanently block your view or your connection to nature.”
Sun-Drenched Dining Room
Krista describes her signature design style as casual elegance in a classic, contemporary setting. “I love designing spaces that look like a million bucks, but guess what? My clients actually have to live or work there,” she says. “It’s important to me to make each one of my designs approachable.”
Dreamy Bedroom
Lyrics from Bruce Springsteen’s “Valentine’s Day” serve as an eye-catching backdrop in the serene master bedroom.
Relaxing Master Bath
Black and white photographs adorn the walls of Krista’s bathroom. “A really good photograph can tell an interesting story through color, shading and texture,” she says. “The same can be said for really good design.”
Fashion-Forward Decor
Krista’s designs are heavily influenced by fashion and photography. “I love fashion because it’s always changing, always propelling forward,” she says. “Certain colors and textiles become popular in the fashion world, and I find ways to bring those trends into the spaces I create.”
Efficient Workspace
Krista designed the modern, functional home office with her husband in mind. “And, of course, [I] let him have the biggest flat-screen TV he could find!” she adds. “What can I say? I’m a sucker for my family.”
Cheerful Kid’s Room
The kid’s bedroom features cheery, yellow and white striped walls, plus plenty of storage space for toys and games.
Art and Style
Artwork, photography and unique accent pieces add personality throughout Krista’s home.
Family-Friendly Furnishings
“Remember the old saying, ‘fashion over function?’ I think it’s truly possible to have both,” Krista says. “Why buy a sofa that looks good but isn’t comfortable? Why choose fabrics that you can’t touch? I will never design a space that isn’t chic and sophisticated, but it will always be livable, no matter how much it costs.”
Outdoor Living
Krista’s favorite thing about living in South Florida? “The weather!” she says. “I know it sounds cliché, but the weather in South Florida is incredible. You’re surrounded by beautiful tropical plants, ocean breezes and fresh air. It’s truly paradise and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
Lovely Facade
Framed by lush palm trees, Krista’s home exudes classic Mediterranean style.
