Perched on five acres with ocean, mountain and valley views, film director Joel Schumacher's one-of-a-kind rustic compound was built in 2000 and later featured in Architectural Digest. The home is revealed at the top of a long, gated drive.
Entrance
The director hired architect Don Nulty to design the home, which features reclaimed wood from several 200-year-old barns.
Great Room
French doors in the living room offer stunning ocean views immediately upon entering the home. Truly a great room, the space boasts soaring pitched ceilings, an expansive second-story loft currently used as an office and large fireplaces on each side of the room.
Kitchen
Just off the living room, the gourmet kitchen is a chef's dream with top-of-the-line appliances and a walk-in pantry. Rough-hewn wooden beams ornament the ceiling.
Master Suite
At the top of the stairs, the master suite is a spacious yet intimate hideaway. The sitting room enjoys dramatic ocean and mountain views and cozies up to its own fireplace. The bed is tucked away in an alcove, allowing the sleeping and sitting areas to be partitioned for privacy.
Dining Room
With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the pool, gardens and coastal vistas, the dining room opens up to the kitchen and offers a fantastic space for both casual and formal occasions.
Library
Built-in shelving lines the walls of the library, which could also serve as a cozy den. A full bathroom and closet allow for a third bedroom suite in the house.
Hallway
Original murals and eclectic decor grace the hallway.
Dining Patio
Celebrating harmony in nature, almost every room opens up to the exquisitely landscaped outdoor areas and terraces designed by Eric Nagelmann. Just off the great room, this patio is perfect for casual alfresco meals.
Pool and Guesthouse
Outside, pathways meander through the grounds and past the black-bottomed pool, arriving at an enchanting guesthouse.
Pool
The pool area is one of the best spots on the property to admire spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.
