Get Ready for Guests

It’s time to get your home ready for the holidays! Whether you have a sprawling front porch or a modest stoop, we’re gifting you with a little extra seasonal decor insporation.

Welcoming Entry

The holidays bring good times, good food and loads of guests, so creating a welcoming entry is key. HGTV Urban Oasis 2019’s back porch is all about modern farmhouse charm, and its holiday décor builds on that vibe with clean lines, warm materials, and playful accents.

Cozy Seating

If you’ve got the space, create a spot to cuddle up with a steaming cup of joe (or cocoa!) and soak up the neighborhood cheer. Borrow chairs from inside or lay out a few oversized floor pillows around a side table. Cozy up your seating zone by adding chunky knit throws, textural fabrics, or a soft area rug.

DIY Door Decor

Nothing sets the tone like a festive front door. If you’re into some light crafting during the holidays, this dapper snowman is a must-make. It’s essentially three wire wreath forms covered in DIY pom-poms. We love that it’s easy to make and even easier to hang (one Command™ Hook and done!) It also folds up quickly when it's time to store it for next year.

Magical Lights

There’s just something about holiday lights that warms the heart and creates excitement. And now you have so many options- from traditional plug-in twinkle lights or vintage-inspired battery-operated LEDs to rope lights. They’re perfect for outlining eaves, windows, and doors without a lot of fuss.

Wintry Color Scheme

If you're ready to break out of the traditional green and red color scheme this year, try a blue, silver and white combo. Blue is on-trend, so you'll have no problem finding plenty of cute accessories to cozy up the space. Add spare pops of red for more visual impact!

Floating Effect

Creating a little "wow, how'd you do that?" magic to your front porch is simple with this airy ornament display. Whether you create an accent wall or string them around windows and doors, the floating ornament effect will impress kids and adults. Cut fishing line into 9-foot sections, then randomly tie on ornament. Secure the line to the ceiling, pull it tight, then secure it to the floor.

Outdoor Vignettes

When decorating, consider bringing some of your more durable ornaments and decor outdoors. Many holiday accessories are made of indoor/outdoor materials like wood, plastic, glass, or metal! They’ll add a little unexpected flair to outdoor tables, entry steps, and deep window ledges.

Natural Elements

Don’t forget to incorporate natural elements into your look. We played up the planks on the porch ceiling by adding an oversized basket and plant stands in similar wood tones. Adding a few earthy accents to a cool color scheme creates a balance which helps make guests feel warm and relaxed. That’s what the holidays are all about!
