Here's what you'll need:

  • Black Yarn
  • Cardboard
  • Cup & Quarter (for tracing)
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Yellow Craft Paint
  • Orange Craft Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paper Plates
  • 3M Adjustables (for hanging)

Step 1: Paint Candy Corn

First, gather several paper plates, keeping one as your artist's palette. Starting near the center, paint a circle in yellow, leaving white space in the middle. With the orange paint, fill in the outer section, then set each plate aside to dry.

Step 2: Keep Count

Each plate will create eight candy corn pieces, so be sure to paint enough to accommodate your banner’s length.

Step 3: Cut Pieces

Once the paint is dry, cut each plate into eight equal sections.

Step 4: Create Pom-Pom Guide

To make pom-poms, you'll need to make a cardboard guide. Place a 4 to 5-inch diameter glass on top of your cardboard scrap and trace around it. Then place a quarter in the center of that circle and trace around it, too. Now cut out the smaller circle, leaving a gap, so you’re left with a cardboard “C”.

Step 5: Wrap Pom-Poms

To make the pom-pom, lay the lead yarn on the cardboard to mimic the C shape, then wrap the guide about three times to get a fluffy pom-pom. When done, snip the yarn along the outer edge of the cardboard guide, then tie off the pom-pom using the lead yarn.

Step 6: Assemble Banner

With all the candy corn prepped and pom-poms made, you’re ready to assemble the banner. Cut a long piece of yarn to the desired length, then lay it out on a workspace. Using tape, attach the candy corn pieces, spacing them a few inches apart. Every four to five pieces of candy corn, tie on a pom-pom, and trim any stray pieces of yarn, as needed.

Step 7: Hang it Up!

Be sure to leave enough yarn on the ends to hang the banner and embellish it with a few pom-poms. If you forget, you can always tie on extra yarn and hide any knots with a pom-pom. You can use few tiny 3M Adjustables (for hanging) to drape the banner practically anywhere in your home!
