Welcome Inside

A bold fire engine red front door opens to the home's welcoming entry with mudroom area. Hooks on the wall for hanging outdoor items like coats, jackets and umbrellas and a custom built-in bench that provides a spot to change shoes make the entry organized and user-friendly. Removing walls and enlarging an existing narrow hallway that cut the entry off from surrounding spaces really opened things up and improved flow in this first floor of the home.

Long-Lasting Front Door

The Craftsman-style fiberglass front entry door offers the look and feel of wood with the durability and energy efficiency benefits of fiberglass. Impervious to moisture, the UV resistant door was designed to eliminate problems like cracking and shrinking.

Built-In Bench

The entry's custom white built-in bench includes gray velvet pillows and custom pillows in a paisley print. An open storage area below has space for storing boots and shoes, with green baskets for grab-and-go items to pick up before heading out the door.

Natural Light

Replacing an existing window that was smaller, a new insulated double hung window with white trim over the bench with relaxed roman shades brings lots of natural light into the entry. Two adjustable industrial-style wall sconces with a polished nickel finish help illuminate the space.

Warmth of Wood

The prefinished engineered hardwood floor in the entry and main floor of the home in "greige" (a color between beige and gray) adds warmth to the space. The medium tone floor offers a nice compromise to a super light or dark look.

More Storage

A straw hat, venting bucket hat, leather messenger bag, and leather travel bag hang on the satin nickel hooks flanking the bench. A wood wall home organizer with fabric pinboard and wooden push pins above the hooks includes Cincinnati postcards for local flavor and two cubbies for storage of daily mail.

Nifty Shelving

A wall-mounted brown shelf with four hooks sits on the other side of the front door, offering additional storage and display space for decorative items.

Coordinated Hues

Red and white ski patrol art, a red insulated growler and insulated cup that coordinate with the pops of red used throughout the home sit on the wall-mounted shelf, with space leftover for keys and wallets.

Latest Security Features

Part of the home’s top-notch wireless security system, a touch-to-wake keypad on the wall by the front door lights up when you need to see it, and goes dark when you don’t.

Clutter-Free Home

The sturdy hooks on the bottom of the wall-mounted shelf offers hanging storage for items like jackets, dog leashes and umbrellas, to help keep the main living areas of the home free from clutter.

Connected Spaces

This wide view of the entry looking towards the front door of the home shows the mudroom area, the paneled door to the powder room on the left, and original pocket doors to the parlor on the right side of this photo. “Preserving the pocket doors was very important, to allude to the original architecture of the home,” says project manager Dan Faires.

Bright and Happy Powder Room

Located across from the parlor sits the home's updated powder room with a bright and cheerful yellow color scheme that makes the happy space unforgettable.

Central Location

This view outside the powder room shows the entry's easy connection with the home’s two-level great room that includes the kitchen, open dining room and living room with lots of natural light.

Updated Urban Living

The updated entry offers a preview of the major transformation of this classic urban home that uses bold color and an efficient modern layout with good flow to create a beautiful city retreat packed with personality.
