8 Pointers for Picking and Styling Your Pillows
HGTV Smart Home 2017 may be all about high tech, but it has a soft side, too. Here’s how we used plush pillows from Bassett Furniture & Home Decor to make an unforgettable style statement.

Blue Velvet
From the velvety oversized pillows to the fluffy wall art, the master suite is the definition of a soft place to land. The bed features a head-to-toe look from Bassett: an upholstered headboard, indulgent custom-made pillows, a quilted coverlet, and a striped linen duvet for extra coziness.

White and Cobalt
The key to a great pillow look is layering without going overboard. (No one wants to have to search for the bed every night because it’s buried underneath a pillow mountain.) Here in the master bedroom, the pillows play off a white upholstered headboard, and a draped cobalt throw creates a contrasting backdrop for the white pillows in front—without taking up any additional space.

Mix and Match Textures
The success of this pillow combo is in the fabric details. A hip mix of leather, velvet, and a funky Southwestern pattern create a layered look.

Custom Details
Match a great pillow with an ottoman covered in the same fabric. The great room sitting area uses custom-upholstered ottomans in place of a traditional table and chairs, and the small ottomans match the velvety square pillows on the wingback chairs. The result is casual, but cohesive.

A Graphic Combo
In the terrace bedroom, designer Tiffany Brooks chose pillows with a smart mix of bold graphics and traditional patterns. The graphic pillow in front picks up the bold themes from the modern wall art, but the soft diamonds and checks behind give the eye a place to rest.

Odd Elements
When you’re arranging décor objects like pillows, groupings of threes, fives, and sevens usually look more natural than even numbers. So what should you do if you have six pillows? Add a throw (or in this case, an accent rug) over the headboard for your seventh element, as shown here in the guest bedroom.

Bright and Cheery
For the backyard, designer Tiffany Brooks chose playful pop-art pillows that echo nature themes. Bright yellows and lime greens bring in the sunshine even on the cloudiest day.
