HGTV Dream Home 2010: Dining Room Pictures

A pared-down palette punctuates the casual dining space, where two sliding doors lead out to a motor court and offer views of the Western skyline. Floor-to-ceiling drapery softens the space acoustically and diffuses midday sun.

A natural wood ledge, custom crafted at a local mill, showcases clear glass candle hurricanes and two modern art paintings by Kevin Tolman.

Hand-woven lampakanay rope arm chairs and slipcovered side chairs cozy up to a 7-foot-long cross-legged dining table that accommodates a large gathering. A boxy pendant light with an ecru linen shade is anchored close to the pinewood ceiling so as not to compete with the dramatic view.

Delicate watercolors by artist Elaine Holien are displayed at eye level and create an architectural element in the space. "We wanted to keep it quiet," says Woodrum of the decision to select subtle art for the wall. "They had to be interesting on their own, but they couldn't dominate or be overpowering."

Brazilian chestnut floors extend from the walk-through pantry into the dining room. Pinewood ceilings keep the space light and bright.

Textural elements, including hand-woven grass chairs and a sisal-style rug, add visual interest in the dining room.
