Though a necessity for dog owners everywhere, dog beds tend to be an unsightly mess. The last thing your beautiful bedroom or living space needs is a big clump of fabric in the corner that is constantly covered in dog hair. Luckily, this DIY is something you and your dog will both love.

Measure and Cut Wood

We recommend having your wood cut at the hardware store to aid in transport and save time, but if you have a miter saw or circle saw, this can also be done at home. To find your measurements, measure the dog bed being used and add 2-3 inches to the length and width. This will be the measurement of your plywood base.

Glue Sides

With your plywood base lying flat, run a bead of wood glue around the edge of the top. First, put the long 1x1s in place followed by the shorter ones nestled between the long pieces. Clamp each board down in the corners. Allow to dry per the manufacturer’s instructions.

Pro Tip: When gluing wood, the more clamps, the better. If you have enough clamps, add another clamp in the center of your boards for an even better end result.

Attach Braces

To attach each brace, run a bead of glue on the back of your brace and position it against the edge of the plywood. Clamp the brace in place to secure it and predrill your holes. Fasten the board with wood screws. Repeat with the second board on the other edge and, following the same process, center the third brace.

Final Touches

Once you’ve chosen your desired wood stain, apply to the bed following the manufacturer’s instructions. Once the stain has dried, mark the holes for your drawer pull and drill the holes. Slide the provided screws through the holes and fasten in place. Flip the bed on its back and glue a furniture slider on each corner. Once dry, your bed is all ready for your puppy to take a snooze!
