Make Space

To start you indoor racetrack, assess the area you have to work with. Move furniture out of the way to create a larger surface for play, and don't forget to clean the floor. Not only will this make it more sanitary for kids to play, but washi tape will also stick better to a clean floor.

Create a Track

Now, it's time to move on to the fun part! Create a racetrack outline using various colorful washi tape. It's easy to remove and won't leave a sticky residue, so it's perfect for mixing up your design.

Go Vertical

Get creative with your space. Incorporate furniture and even the walls by adding washi tape buildings, parking lots and more.

Upcycled Signs

Use tissue boxes, paper towel rolls and other used cardboard to create tunnels, signs and trees.

On Your Mark

You can simply place your structures on the ground, or if you'd like them to be a bit more sturdy, use a dot of putty to hold in place.

Wrapping It Up

Use wrapping paper tubes to connect different levels for a more challenging racetrack. Secure to furniture and the floor with more washi tape.

Get Creative

Give your track some extra pizzazz with ramps and other obstacles. A dustpan works great! Kids will have fun scouring the house for interesting additions to their race.

Keep It Clean

Every kid loves a good car wash! Bring one to your racetrack with a clean mop and a handwritten sign.

Crowd Control

Cardboard drink holders make great stands for your adoring racing fans. But if you don't have them on hand, any small box will do.

Screaming Fans

To make the fans, simply fold a small piece of washi tape over the single side of a paper clip. Draw a face, and you're done!

Ready, Set, Go!

Let kids race against each other or set a timer to see how fast they can make it to the finish line.
