Big City Digs: Brooklyn Church Turned Condo

From the exterior, few might suspect that this Gothic-style church in Brooklyn is actually home to several condominiums. To highlight the unique architectural details of the interior, LABLstudio painted their client's door a teal blue, outfitted the kitchen with matching tile, and then pulled in antique pieces that speak to the owner's eclectic style.

Church Condo Exterior

Originally built in the 1850s, this restored Gothic-style church located in Brooklyn, New York was turned into condos around 2012.

Eclectic Foyer With Arched Blue Door

Designers strived to maintain a sense of the home's church origins by highlighting architectural elements like the beautiful, arched front door. A repurposed peg board hung on the wall makes for a fun spot to hang scarves and jackets.

Multicolored Eclectic Dining Room With Bicycle

The home is a fun-filled combination of the owner's boho modern style and the building's historic church origins. Clean lines are mixed with playful elements and lots and lots of color.

Eclectic Dining Area With Yellow Bike

A tulip table and four chairs make a stylish dining area on the airy main living floor. The space is a good example of how the home lets practical items (hello, yellow bicycle) mix easily with furniture and artwork for an overall look that's friendly and approachable.

Contemporary Blue and White Open Plan Kitchen

The antique wood mirror in the kitchen is one of the places designers aimed to incorporate some of the building's church history. The mirror's ornate carvings are lightened by the slim pendants and bright white cabinetry.

Red, White and Blue Contemporary Kitchen

Red, white and blue look decidedly dashing in the condo's kitchen. Sky-high ceilings counteract the blue subway tiles' horizontal lines. Red wire barstools are like the fun cherry on top.

Eclectic Living Room With Pink Sofa

Part of the home's quirky charm comes from its various levels. A sunken living room is deliciously full of soft poufs and pillows. The dining room is up above with a ladder leading intriguingly to yet a third level.

Multicolored Eclectic Sitting Area With Crocheted Rug

The home's driving color scheme is mostly cool: grays, blues and teals. Pops of bright pink and a few warmer colors (burgundy, magenta) are sprinkled in to add energy and dimension. This loft sitting area is a perfect example of the design's fun, bohemian nature with imaginative layering of texture and color.

Built-In Shelving and Desk

An ingenious collection of built-in wood cabinets and wire shelves makes a handy workspace out of this wall. The trio of cheerful pendants picks up on the home's main color inspirations.

Green and Gray Lockers With Hats

Refurbished lockers, some painted lime green, make for whimsical storage and display space in the foyer.

Green Bathroom Cabinet

A vintage medicine chest becomes boho chic bathroom storage painted bright green.

Built-In Bookshelf With Graphic Wallpaper

A built-in bookshelf gets a graphic glorious interior, black and white and full of personality. Colorful books and artwork complete the joyful picture.

Neutral Contemporary Small Bedroom With Blue Duvet

This bedroom is small, but its layers of inviting texture and pattern make it so appealing. On the wall behind the bed, the small scale of the wallpaper's pattern lets it be a neutral backdrop for the artwork on top.

Contemporary Neutral Bedroom With Gold Lamp

Petite round nightstands are a nice contrast to this bedroom's rectangular shape. The layers of patterns work because they keep a similar scale and color palette.

Multicolored Eclectic Bedroom With Three Pendants

Three geometric pendants pull together the merry mix of colors in this bedroom. The room makes the most of its minimal square footage with a sun-filled window seat.

Bathroom With Floating Vanity

This bathroom's floating vanity looks neat and trim and gets a luxe marble backsplash.
