Picture it: A pool with cool, blue waters, a cabana with a relaxing swing bed and twinkling cafe lights. Sounds like the perfect spot to while away the hours over spring break, right?
For one Minneapolis family, that resort setting is as accessible as walking out their back door, thanks to an inviting backyard design created by the team at Mom's Design Build.
"They wanted a beach house in the middle of the city," says Heather Grossmann, senior designer at Mom's Design Build.

The centerpiece of this beautiful backyard design is the pool. Because it can be seen from every corner of the yard as well as from the home's interiors, the designers included fountains to create a gorgeous water feature when not in use.
Edging the pool is a row of chaise lounges with thick cushions covered with beachy stripes — perfect for relaxing with a view of the pool and a cocktail in hand. Strings of bistro lights and illuminated planters cast a pleasing glow around the area at night.

For those cooler Minnesota evenings, a stylish fire pit is flanked by a cozy sectional sofa for intimate gatherings with friends (and maybe some roasted marshmallows).
And don't worry about crossing a potentially muddy yard to reach the fire pit. The design team opted for sturdy synthetic turf to to stand up to heavy traffic while entertaining in brutal Minnesota winters.

The true showpiece of the entire yard is the pergola at the foot of the pool. A hanging daybed could easily seem at home in the Bahamas or Las Vegas — especially with the surrounding palm trees.
This tranquil space is perfect for deserving homeowners Mark and Susan Lacek, who founded Faith's Lodge in honor of their late daughter. The nonprofit center provides a comforting space for grieving families, and the Lacek's yard gives the couple and their two children a space of their own to rest and recharge.
