DIY Chic Desk Organizer 01:11

PVC pipe and a wood board are all it takes to make this fun desk organizer.

Make it yourself with these step-by-step instructions:

PVC Pipe Desk Organizer

Materials Needed

  • 1” x 6” x 18” wood board
  • 2” wide PVC pipe
  • 3” wide PVC pipe
  • 120-grit sandpaper
  • metallic spray paint (formulated for plastic)
  • acrylic paint
  • foam brushes
  • permanent craft glue

Cut Materials

Cut your wood board to size, or have it cut to size at the hardware store. Have the PVC pipes cut to the following lengths:

2" WIDE PIPE: (1) 3.5" long piece; (1) 4" long piece

3" WIDE PIPE: (1) 2" long piece; (1) 2.5" long piece; (1) 5" long piece

Lightly sand the wood board and PVC pipe pieces. TIP: There will likely be bar codes and numbers on your PVC pipes. Remove these with the sandpaper so you can use fewer coats of spray paint.

Spray paint the wood board and PVC pipes until they're fully covered. Use several light coats, letting the paint dry completely between each coat.

Position + Glue

Position the pipes how you want them on the wood board. (We put the tallest pipe in the middle and the shorter pipes on the outside.) Glue each pipe in place using permanent craft glue and let dry 24 hours.

Optional: Add an Accent Inside

For an extra touch of color, paint the inside and top edge of each pipe with acrylic paint in a complementary hue. Use a foam brush for a smooth finish. Complete the look by painting the edge of the wood board.

Display + Enjoy!

When the paint is dry, use the organizer to corral your office supplies: push pins, paper clips and rubber bands in the shorter compartments; pens, pencils and scissors in the taller compartments. Everything is neat and within arm's reach!
