It’s Handmade Holidays week on I Heart HGTV! All week long, we’re sharing our favorite DIY gift ideas for groups, from BFFs to coworkers to extended family. Plus, we’ll share our favorite gift-wrap tricks.

It’s hard to go wrong with a "cozy" gift this time of year: fuzzy slippers, a plush blanket, a chunky scarf. Here’s a little something extra to help your friends and family stay toasty this winter: DIY hand warmers. They’re inexpensive and easy to make, so they’re a perfect stocking stuffer or small gift for a large group. Here’s how to make them:

DIY Hand Warmers 00:51

These DIY hand warmers make colorful and cozy holiday gifts.

Filled with rice, these little hand warmers have great heat retention properties. Just pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds, and they’ll stay warm for at least 30 minutes. Put one in each coat pocket before leaving the house to avoid those dreaded frozen fingers.

Most tutorials for DIY hand warmers require a sewing machine, but if you don't have one or just don't feel like breaking it out, there's another option: hem tape! The peel-and-stick kind is super easy to use, and it's heavy duty enough to hold up in the microwave. You can use up scraps of 100-percent cotton fabric to make these handy gifts, or pick up inexpensive fabric remnants from your local craft store.
