Leslie Knope Would Love This Galentine's Day Party (and Your Friends Will, Too)
Many people have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day. For some, the day creates an excuse to go on a romantic date with a significant other, exchange gifts and eat a lot of chocolate. For others, it’s a dreaded commercial holiday that highlights their single status. Whether you plan to celebrate Valentine's Day or not, there’s no reason you can’t celebrate the less controversial Galentine’s Day with your girls!
Leslie Knope, fictional superwoman and small town government employee from Parks and Recreation, played by Amy Poehler, created the holiday. Galentine’s Day falls on Feb. 13 and is a day to celebrate all the lovely ladies in your life. Follow these ideas for decor, recipes and activities to throw a Galentine’s party worthy of even Leslie Knope’s approval.
Step 1: Send pretty invites to your squad.
Sure, you could just send a group text to all your gal pals to tell them about the party, but why not send actual paper invitations to make it feel more official? Download one of these free printable invitations that we love.
Step 2: Decorate.
Enlist one or two of the attendees to come over a couple of hours early and help you decorate. Use these DIYs to set the scene.
Chevron Sequin Backdrop
This is where you get to show off your creative skills. A printed fabric backdrop is most common, but why limit yourself to store-bought options? Make one that adds life to the photos. Create a chevron-inspired backdrop with black foam board, a glue stick and jumbo gold sequins. Draw the chevron stripes using a ruler, then fill in rows of sequins.
Step 3: Treat yo self (and your gals).
While Valentine's Day and Galentine's Day are times to indulge in sweet treats, you also want to make sure to have savory options. Put together a killer snack spread for everyone to enjoy throughout the night.

Cheese Plate for Winter Picnic
A cheese plate makes ideal picnic food: It doesn't require cooking and it's bound to please a crowd. Present a mix of your favorite meats, cheeses and olives atop a marble board. Create your own food-tag holders by spray-painting discount metal forks and folding them into a "U" shape.
