The Holiday

"It's a little trite, but I really love The Holiday with Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. When I was a single girl in my first house, I took a day off work to prep for a holiday house party while watching this movie (more than once, I must admit). So it actually makes me think of appetizers and wine. For some reason, little quiches come to mind — they must have been on my party menu! But my favorite holiday appetizer is sausage balls, so for a rewatch, I’d have to throw a few of those into the mix, too." — Kelly Smith Trimble, Executive Editor

"The Holiday is one of my favorite movies to watch this time of year. There's one scene where Jack Black's character (Miles) tells Kate Winslet's character (Iris) that he's going to cheer her up by making some Christmas fettuccine. After that, we see Cameron Diaz (Amanda) getting ready to eat a delicious-looking plate of pasta. It gets me every time — I always end up craving fettuccine alfredo, and I think this is the year I’m finally going to make some for my movie night. It just sounds so rich and comforting for a chilly winter day." — Shannon Petrie, Managing Editor

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

"I don’t even like eggnog, but I always feel compelled to pour myself a glass while watching National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. But only, ONLY, if it's served in a Marty Moose glass from Wally World." — Mallory Ziglar, Social Media Manager

"I can't think of a better movie and cocktail pairing than National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with spiked eggnog. It's imperative that you drink the eggnog from this cup, though. To enhance your viewing experience, channel Cousin Eddie and wear only a bath robe, crew socks and loafers. (Trapper hat, cigar and beer are optional.)" — Molly Miller, Apple News Editor

"Every year I watch Scrooged with Bill Murray. I still have the movie on video cassette, even though I chucked the player a few years ago. Who doesn't like Bill Murray? And Carol Kane's kooky and violent Ghost of Christmas Present character is a riot. I think the movie would pair well with a drink worthy of Bill Murray's media mogul character in the film — how about a strong Manhattan?" — Paul Cox, Operations Director

"I'm going to take it old-school and confess that I love watching the 1964 stop-motion version of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer with peppermint hot chocolate (marshmallows not required, but strongly encouraged). We started this tradition in my house a couple of years ago and now it has become our seasonal staple." — Katie Friedman, Editorial Intern

Die Hard

"It's a hotly debated subject and countless articles have been written about why Die Hard deserves to be included in the pantheon of holiday movies. Not only is it a great action movie, but it features Christmas music throughout and is essentially about a father trying to see his family for the holidays. Sure, there are a few explosions, but (spoiler alert!) everything ends up fine in the end. My wife loves classic Christmas movies, though, so our tradition is to watch a few of her favorites before closing out the night with Bruce Willis crawling around Nakatomi Plaza rescuing his wife from an office Christmas party gone bad." — Ryan Reed, Editor
