Sparkle + Shine: Sophisticated Unicorn-Inspired Design
Add a little magic to your space.
Once upon a time, we lived in a sad, sad world that reserved unicorn parties to little girls between the ages of five and 10. More tragic still — unicorn decor was restricted for the outfitting of little-lady bedrooms and nothing more. All that pretty pink, pastel purple, fresh mint and iridescent, sparkly goodness — appropriate only for the pig-tailed kiddos? C'est tragique!
PSA: The dark days are over. Unicorns are "in" right now — for everyone. Consider these horn-headed steeds the it-mystical-creature for SS17. (Go ahead, quote me on that.)
Banquette Breakfast Nook is Charming, Coastal
The walls of this coastal breakfast nook are painted a fresh white, Benjamin Moore's Swiss Coffee, highlighting the gray of the charming banquette bench. A natural oak stained table and dining chairs are paired with a white airy drum light for a modern touch. Designer Becki Owens ties the look together with the pink block print fabric of the window treatments and pink and neutral throw pillows.
We can't get enough of their innate iridescence, their unapologetic sparkle and that magical thing they've got going is such a mood boost, am I right? Adults are throwing all kinds of sparkly, unicorn-inspired soirees for bachelorette and birthdays alike. Starbucks is serving the masses with their creamy, cotton-candy-colored Unicorn Frappuccino (don't look at the sugar count). Now seems like as good as time as ever to take back unicorn decor and design while we're at it.
I'm here to prove that we can (and should!) milk this magical, mystical creature for all it's worth. The end goal? To create unicorn-inspired spaces that are sparkly and magical, and downright — dare I say? — sophisticated.
Soft, featherlight hues are key to executing the adult unicorn design. Opt for snowy white, pale pink, light lavender, mint or aqua to give your space a fresh, one of a kind look. Easily incorporate these hues via paint color, wallpaper or even glam furniture pieces.
