Architect Tor Barstad put breathtaking views of the Arizona desert on display at this luxurious retreat where a lap-style infinity-edge pool creates a watery oasis, dividing the home from the surrounding arid landscape. For added drama, a rainfall water feature flanks the main outdoor living area, providing the relaxing sound of falling water and a cool, misty breeze.

The old adage "You can't fool Mother Nature" may be true, but the landscape designers at Lewis Aquatech certainly gave it their best shot. They transformed this property into a fairytale-worthy wooded garden with layers of lush plantings and a rambling stream that winds among hand-placed boulders. Landscape lighting, stone bridges and foot paths make this wonderland one anyone would love to explore.

A traditional gated entry with ornamental ironwork that leads to a wide, private coutyard gives this Spanish Revival-style stunner massive curb appeal. The main home features hand-applied stucco which landscape architect Mark Scott softened with trailing vines of creeping fig, low hedges and a pair of Arborvitae flanking the front door.

Contemporary Patio and Pool With Lake View

Globe-Shaped Water Feature Next to Infinity Pool

The main focus of the design was the infinity pool. It was positioned so the infinity edge faces the largest view of the lake. The designer created a large, lounging patio for big parties as well as a lower patio for drinks and cigars. The unique water feature with plants breaks up and softens the extensive hardscaping.

The team at Mom's Design Build gave this lakefront home a resort-like feel with an infinity-edge pool and a spherical water feature that steals the show. Tropical palms and flowering plants add natural beauty, while multiple seating areas — sited on terraced levels that lead down to the dock — get this backyard ready to party.

Contemporary Pergola Poolhouse and Pool

View of Open Poolhouse and Swimming Pool

The pool and poolhouse is set away from the main house as a destination and its own outdoor room.

Also an Editors' Pick: Constructed away from the main house, this rustic poolhouse and entertaining space was sited to make the most of the property's unobstructed mountain views. Landscape architects Keith Wagner and Jeffrey Hodgson kept the landscaping simple with symmetrical plantings of ornamental grasses. The low plantings not only mirror the poolhouse's streamlined aesthetic, they also don't detract from the surrounding mature trees and distant mountain views.
