How to Paint a Wall Mural

Add a fun and playful element to any room with an easy-to-create wall mural.

Materials:

overhead projector
transparency paper
black marker
roll of masking tape
pencil
painter's tape
paint brush
foam roller
small artist's brush
paint

Steps:

1. Select the desired image or pattern for the wall. Draw or trace the concept onto a piece of transparency paper with a black marker. Make sure the lines of your design are dark and thick so they will be visible when projected onto the wall. Photographs can easily be transferred onto transparency paper at your local copy center.

2. Put the transparency paper on the glass of the projector, turn on the projector and turn off the room lights.

3. Move the overhead projector closer or further from the wall so that it projects your image at the desired position and size on the wall.

4. Using a pencil, trace over the projected lines on the wall.

5. Once you have traced the pattern, fill it in with wall paint. Use a foam roller for larger sections and a small artist's brush for detailed sections. If you used a photograph for your mural, refer to it for paint color ideas.

6. Let your masterpiece dry for up to three hours before touching up areas with a small artist's brush.
