Centered by a custom walnut-slab table, this glam dining room is punctuated by deep, rich garnet. "Colors have connecting, healing and emotional properties that can affect us," says designer Tineke Triggs. "Use colors that make you feel good in the room." In addition to drawing the eye to the artwork, Tineke says, "Red is the color of power and energy," perfect for social people that entertain a lot.
A dramatic four-poster bed in rich red is the eye-catching gem of this eclectic, inviting bedroom. Slate-gray walls give a cozy feel to this high-ceilinged room while a pair of dainty, sparkling chandeliers lend a luxe touch.
"When using natural jewel tones in a space, you’ll be sure to make a strong color statement," says designer Kenna Stout. "Colors like amethyst create an unexpected sense of whimsy, while feeling luxurious and calming all at once."
"We loved the texture and depth that the amethyst [geode] brought to this styled cocktail table. It complemented the intense color palette of the vintage table while adding another layer of natural beauty and sophistication," Kenna says.
Shades of dark and light purple define this contemporary bedroom with a fresh feel. Playfully-patterned bedding and complementary walls make a statement, while airy white drapes and neutral carpeting keep the look from being overpowering.
"Aqua is unique, as it is both a vibrant and calming color," says designer Jenna Buck Gross. "When using aqua in a space, it is going to be a — if not the — center of attention. Aqua is great because you can get away with using a lot of it without it feeling overbearing or overwhelming in a space."
In this dining room, aqua is meant to evoke the sparkling Gulf of Mexico; pops of orange also help to lend a sunny, beachy feel.
White accessories and marble floors keep this bathroom looking clean and modern, while really making the color pop. Bright aqua walls feel fresh and welcoming, with matching robes and decorative glass bottles bringing the whole look together.
"Chandeliers are the jewelry of your home; whether small or large, they add drama to any room," says designer Jamie Laubhan-Oliver of D Home. We couldn't agree more when looking at this crystal-embellished design lighting the eclectic, yet symmetrical, setup of this inviting bedroom. A few metallic accents, including table lamps and framed mirrors, add additional, yet subtle, shine.
Taking things a little more literally, a sparkling backsplash of beveled, diamond-shaped mirrors — along with the boldly-patterned floor — lends a regal touch to this stunning black-and-white master bathroom.
"Color is extremely important and can directly define the design and mood of a space," says Nina Magon of Contour Interior Design. "For example, pastel colors create a soothing and uplifting atmosphere, while strong jewel tones can evoke the feeling of opulence." Emerald lends a sense of richness, says Nina, and for these velvet stools, "it was the perfect color to accentuate the space when paired with the brass and the detailed flooring."
A breathtaking focal wall in an emerald agate motif plays beautifully against the black-and-white bedding and understated furniture in this welcoming bedroom. The sophisticated splash of green is echoed in the small houseplants that add another hit of verdant color to this otherwise neutral room.
The walls and furnishings — even the beads hung from the chandelier — all work within the warm and welcoming off-white hue in this dining room. "The pearl color is soothing and works well with most color schemes," says designer Anita Clark. "Unlike bright whites, the off-white color blends best with other colors and serves as a neutral that complements most colors, hues and values."
In this elegant kitchen, a pearly backsplash in shades of gray makes a dramatic impact as a statement wall while contemporary stools add a modern touch, and gleaming chandeliers bring a bit of luxury.
Who says the laundry room can't be packed with style? This farmhouse-inspired design utilizes decorative wood details, framed art and neutral hues to surround the surprising jewels of the room: a ruby red washer and dryer. We love when functional meets fabulous!
Topped off with a spectacular glass chandelier with scrolling ruby-red arms, this design takes outdoor living to a new level of luxury. Defined with crimson touches all around, from the table to the cushions and decorative pillows on the chaises, this red-bedecked space feels regal, yet surprisingly cozy.
A perfect match for the tropical resort-style furnishings in this elegant room, peridot green adds a refreshing bring-the-outdoors-in feeling. Atop handwoven rattan frames, the bright color on the club chair and ottoman energizes the space. A bowl of apples in an openwork metallic bowl and the large houseplant add a few more dashes of gorgeous green.
This happy, peppy hue with a glossy finish is just the thing to brighten up a shapely bombe chest in this eclectic nursery. Set against a blackboard wall, the piece really pops while adding a fresh, verdant touch to the scene.
Though not the predominant hue in this gorgeous living room, varying shades of sapphire add a satisfying jolt of contrasting color. Crisp white grounds the look, while bright tangerine adds a level of warmth and brightness. We love the touches of blue popping up throughout the scene and creating a harmonious look.
In this vibrant, contemporary living room, sapphire blue plays a dominant role. The jewel-tone hue is amplified here with shades of pink and other lively colors, creating a cool, energized effect. Every hue comes together beautifully in a vivid, eye-catching tapestry that is the focal point — and the likely starting point — of this gem of a space.
"Opal blue creates a sophisticated, inviting space in this family room," says designer Melanie Coddington. "The secret to creating a calm room is to repeat the color throughout, but I also added a few other shades of blue to create a more collected, interesting look. There is opal blue on the walls and throughout the room, French blue in the custom area rug, and steel blue in the lounge chairs. I brought in accents of silver and gray to add in some classic glamour."
Opal blue is patterned with metallic gold on the elegant wallpaper in this opulent dining room. The chair rail and board on the lower half of the wall help to ground the fancy paper. The pinks and reds featured on the floral-backed chairs recall the sparks of fiery color found in the mesmerizing birthstone.
"Meaningful colors show off a client’s style and personality, really making a space inviting, unique and personalized," says designer Kristi Will. "Citrine is not a color that is used often in a bedroom design, so using it in this space really focuses your attention to the details, allowing color to become the center of the space."
Inspired by Hawaiian plumeria, a delicate white flower with a golden center, the room's decor features neutrals popped with the citrine hue.
In this feminine bathroom, golden details bring an air of glam to the space. The wallpaper features an airy white hue ground with a graphic design redolent of the facets of a sparkling gemstone. Metallic sconces, mirror detail and accessories finish off this beautiful bath with a gorgeous gleam.
The custom countertop in vibrant turquoise helps give this warm, wood-laden kitchen a spirited, midcentury modern feel. The backsplash, in a complementary shade, creates a beautiful backdrop for the colorful cookery while keeping the room bright and fresh.
No matter the weather, brighten up the outdoors with a splash of gorgeous color, like this painted turquoise potting bench in the garden. Sprucing up a utilitarian piece with colorful paint helps put the fun in functional while adding a pretty focal point to the yard.
