Drab to Fab Bookcase

Brighten up a humdrum bookcase with a pop of bright color. Paint all of the outside edges with a contrasting color for impact.

Primer + Paint

If painting a finished bookcase, coat the bookcase first in high adhesive primer. Add a coat or two, if necessary, of latex paint. Use a smooth roller for a solid, smooth finish.

Cut + Paint

Cut wood project planks to desired size and coat with exterior paint in desired color.

Drill holes to accommodate house numbers and secure from the back. Install the finished project on a corner near the front door with liquid construction adhesive or nails as appropriate.

Use an eyedropper to add paint to the inside of clean bottles. Add a few drops of water to thin the paint and swirl to coat the inside completely.

Dry + Reapply

Invert the bottle on paper towels and allow to dry completely. Add another coat as necessary.

Group Together

Group bottles together for impact. If using latex paint, place a floral vase insert (available at most florists) in the bottles before adding the flowers. If using oil-based paints, that step is unnecessary.
