Dressed-Up Dresser Ideas From Readers

Think twice before you lug that old dresser to the dump.

Banish brown and boring dressers from your bedroom. Take inspiration from these creative HGTV fans who sanded, painted and repurposed their chests of drawers into custom one-of-a-kind pieces.

We’re loving the trend of colorful custom furniture to add fun and personality to a room. I feel like we all have a piece like this one from @Heather_Hill5 taking up space in a garage. Her finished gray dresser is another example of how far a coat of paint and new knobs can go in reviving a piece of furniture that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Logan from @thestylishpeach shares the details of this mid-century modern makeover on her blog. In her case, the original dresser had too many scratches and stains for it to work as-is. A few smart and trendy choices make this piece look like it came straight from a fancy furniture show room.

Ombre is a trend that’s still making the rounds on window treatments, decorative art and focal walls. We especially love it on the drawers of a dresser, seen below in a lovely blue-gray hue by @beautymark_furniture.  Want to make your own ombre dresser? We’ll show you how

This coral dresser stopped me in my tracks. Card catalog drawer pulls seem to be having a moment, and it’s no wonder. Not only can they help keep you organized if you choose to use labels, but they instantly give any piece of furniture a sense of librarian sophistication, don’t you think? And in weathered brass, @thirtyeighthstreet must be after our hearts.

I once painted my entire bedroom in a shade of deep blue similar to the one on this dresser, made over by @wifeinprogress. Even though it’s a cool blue tone, the room felt so warm and cozy. I imagine this dresser in a room adds the same feeling, and the hot pink flowers on top are a happy pop of color.

If you’re designing around a theme, a custom paint job can make any piece suddenly work in a space. For a comic book-themed room, paint a favorite super hero emblem on the dresser. A baseball-themed dresser is a home run in a game room or kids’ room and @vintagebirchdesigns makes it look so easy to do.

This French provincial chest of drawers gets a modern face lift with a coat of black paint in a glossy finish. Suddenly the ornate brass drawer pulls look fresh instead of dated. Thanks for sharing, @freshandvintageliving
