1992 – HGTV founder Ken Lowe has an idea for a cable TV network about home renovation and gardening.

December 30, 1994 – HGTV goes on the air reaching 6.5 million homes in 44 markets.

May 1996 – launches.

April 1997 - The first HGTV Dream Home Giveaway receives 1.2 million entries.

October 1997 – HGTV Canada launches.

September 1999House Hunters debuts on HGTV.

December 1999 – HGTV’s first White House Christmas special airs.

June 2001 –HGTV launches its first online newsletter.

February 2006House Hunters International debuts on HGTV.

April 2006 –Celebrating its 10th year with a $2 million grand prize, the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway receives 54 million entries.

July 2006 –HGTV debuts HGTV Design Star, the network’s first foray into reality competition television.

November 2008 – HGTV launches its first Facebook page.

February 2009 – HGTV launches its first Twitter page.

June 2011 – HGTV HOME consumer products hit the shelves.

October 2011HGTV Magazine debuts.

February 2014 – HGTV reaches more than 96 million households.

March 2014 – The 18th HGTV Dream Home Giveaway receives more than 72 million entries.

August 2014 – HGTV programming airs in 69 countries.

September 9, 2014 – HGTV Day is declared in Tennessee.

December 30, 2014 – HGTV celebrates its 20th Birthday!
