A West Coast Palace in the California Hills
Gatsby-esque
Architect Brian Lerman was the creative force behind this extravagant 22,000-square-foot Southern California estate. Though it sits on the opposite coast from Gatsby's fabled West Egg, the home's size, scope and appointments could easily have drawn inspiration from the resplendent mansions described in F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel. There are, in fact, six rooms in this house that cost more than $1,000,000 to construct.
Castle Stair
Transitioning into the home's spectacular basement level, this winding stair is the entrance to the wine cellar. The wooden stairs are made from 300-year-old reclaimed barn wood. The walls and ceilings of this room, as well as several others in the below-ground space, are covered in European limestone.
Basement Lounge and Theater
A three-story glass elevator opens in the basement level onto this plush downstairs bar and lounge area that's worthy of a luxury hotel. The lounge is immediately adjacent to a spectacular home theater. Remote-controlled theater curtains open up the space so that the lounge can extend directly into the theater. The theater ceiling is equipped with special fiber-optic accent lighting that creates the effect of a starlit sky complete with shooting stars. The AV system in the home is valued at more than $1.5 million.
A Massive Bed for a Master Bedroom
The master suite includes this bedroom, two lounges and master bath. The 83-square-foot bed was custom-made by a company that manufactures beds for extra-tall basketball players. This one was specially designed to be wide enough for the whole family, kids and all, to climb into.
