Spring!

Sacred Spring

Episode HSPR-107

All About

Home base for host David Tarrant's adventure is the historic and beautiful city of Kyoto. From here he will explore the history of the cherry blossom in Japan. Why are these trees so important? Why do the Japanese stop everything to go and sit among the falling blossoms? Tarrant attends flower ceremonies to celebrate the arrival of the season as the locals have done for centuries. Fanning out from the city, he visits the wildflowers of the woodland countryside and the classic rural village of Miyama, where spring is welcomed with equal exuberance, if not spectacle; magnolias and azaleas cover the hills in fuchsia and white. Finally, he returns to Kyoto for the ultimate spring celebration--the lighting of the ancient cherry trees at Nijo Castle.
