Master gardener Paul James gets down and dirty with the biggest of the big--from pumpkins that can crush a Mini Cooper to corn almost tall enough to shade a house. Viewers also witness a once in a lifetime event--a plant that grows 30 feet high, blooms once, then departs to the big garden in the sky.

Gardeners who want to grow the biggest produce go to extremes to get the job done. One gardener makes sure that all his plants get water that's between 75 to 80 degrees, plus he vacuums his cabbages and provides them with an air conditioning system. Another needs a couple of quilts to protect his prize pumpkin from a frost. One thing is sure though: The competition can be fierce. This one-hour special is pure botanical fun.
