Chip and Joanna Gaines take Kelsey and Trip Purks on a tour through three classic homes in the historic Dean Highland neighborhood of Waco, Texas. The Purks have been renting for three years and are now ready to buy their own little piece of Texas. They'd like to avoid a cookie cutter home preferring an older home with lots of character but with the opportunity to make their own mark. They're looking for an open floor plan with a big kitchen in a neighborhood lined with big trees, wide sidewalks, and quiet roads located close to downtown. Their biggest fear is getting in over their heads with a historic home that may have lots of hidden costs. Will they choose the 1920's cottage with lots of character but only one bathroom, the 1940s 'Dutch Door House' with the foundation issues, or the 1930s timeless brick Tudor with the hobbit-like front door? The Gaines have their work cut out for them with these historic wonders that are plagued with old age issues. Will the Purks' fears be realized when they face pricey repairs on their vintage fixer upper?

The Gulleys are returning to Waco after a 10-year hiatus in Chicago to be closer to friends and family. They're seeking a 4-bedroom home with a large kitchen, nice garden and a big backyard for their 2 kids, 2 dogs and extended family. Amy's biggest fear is flooding after a disastrous experience at their previous home. Will they choose the 'Fun House' with the funky multi-layered layout? Or will their choice be the 'Neat and Tidy Ranch House' with tons of trees but a very vanilla exterior? Or will the winner be the 'Tire Swing' house with the sloped backyard? Chip's nerves are on edge as the Gulley's new house shows signs of previous flood damage on top of an unexpected $8,000 HVAC problem. Could this deal mean the end of a long friendship for the Gaines and the Gulleys?

Chip and Joanna Gaines take Denitia and Norris Blount on a tour through three houses near Baylor University. The Blounts are almost empty-nesters with two kids at home and two on their own. Norris is the Sports Chaplain at Baylor and treats his students like family. They need a house to be big enough to entertain a whole football team. The Gaines' biggest challenge is working with the couple's conflicting tastes. Denitia loves old homes with lots of character and a big backyard. Norris wants a modern home with little or no yard, preferring astro-turf over grass. Will the Blounts be able to compromise on one of the three houses? Will they choose the Outdated Classic'with its large linebacker-size entryways and huge yard? Or will it be the 5-bedroom Unstately Manor with the bland exterior and backyard pool? Or will the winner be the Cute Cottage with the small lawn and party-size kitchen? The Gaines have their work cut out for them turning the Blount's house into a stadium-size home with a low-maintenance lawn.

Chip and Joanna take their new clients, Noah and Jessica Dansby, on a tour through three homes in Hillsboro, Texas, a small charming city halfway between Dallas and Waco. The Dansby family currently lives in Hillsboro and want to stay, but their house is too small for their three growing sons. Chip and Jo found three houses that could potentially provide the Dansbys with the space and character they're looking for. First they tour the 'Nut House,' a spacious home on an ideal lot, yet it is the epitome of a fixer upper after being on the market for more than two years. Next, they see the Suite House, an abode with ample space in a wonderful neighborhood, but the renovation required is daunting to the Dansbys. Lastly they check out 'Jo's Amazing Technicolor Dream House,' the least spacious of the three homes on the tour, but the most affordable. Can Chip and Jo find the perfect home for this growing family? What will the first design meeting be like at the Silos? Will Chip remember his twelfth anniversary?

For the first time ever on Fixer Upper, the tables are turned for Chip and Joanna. Instead of taking potential homebuyers on a tour of houses, this time it's the clients who are showing them a house. Sterling and Casey Zan inherited a 2,000 acre ranch from Sterling's grandfather, who she affectionately calls "Paw Paw." When he passed away, his house sat abandoned on a beautiful corner of the lot for almost ten years. Sterling has a lot of fond memories of the place, and hopes Chip and Joanna can restore it to its former glory. Chip warns her that the house is in serious disrepair and would need a hefty amount of work. While they have $160,000 in their budget to work with, the list of damage is lengthy and they would have to carefully prioritize fixing up the areas that need it most. Chip also knows of other rural properties in better shape that the Zans might be interested in, but he lets them consider their options before they make a decision.
