A House on Foster Drive in Lake Worth Texas is a quaint stone-clad house with a small addition. Both the Slays and Randy like it; the Slays because Cody thinks it will make a nice hunting cabin and Randy mainly because he can make some money just selling the stone. The Snows think it is more work than it's worth. The bidding gets nasty between the Slays and Randy, but Cody and Suzi eventually win it. But before it can be moved, Cody will have to sweat it out and hack off the stone façade by hand. During the renovation, Cody and Suzi butt heads when she wants to add some of her special glam touches to her Cabin and Cody wants to make it a manly space. Another house on Huron Trail in Lake Worth is a two-bedroom 1960's era house in need of a significant renovation. Only half of the house is salvageable and all the electrical must be replaced. Since Randy can do that kind of work himself, he's much more interested in the house than either the Snows or Slays. Randy gets the house at a relatively low price. When the Snow sisters heckle Randy about his design/decorating abilities, he hires a designer (Travis Lewis) to help him out. There is tension between Randy and Travis when it is clear that Randy wants to save every penny and not spend much on the design, which handicaps Travis, when they can't agree on the layout and when Randy decides to surprise Travis with a unique decoration that he found.

Chip and Joanna take their new clients, Noah and Jessica Dansby, on a tour through three homes in Hillsboro, Texas, a small charming city halfway between Dallas and Waco. The Dansby family currently lives in Hillsboro and want to stay, but their house is too small for their three growing sons. Chip and Jo found three houses that could potentially provide the Dansbys with the space and character they're looking for. First they tour the 'Nut House,' a spacious home on an ideal lot, yet it is the epitome of a fixer upper after being on the market for more than two years. Next, they see the Suite House, an abode with ample space in a wonderful neighborhood, but the renovation required is daunting to the Dansbys. Lastly they check out 'Jo's Amazing Technicolor Dream House,' the least spacious of the three homes on the tour, but the most affordable. Can Chip and Jo find the perfect home for this growing family? What will the first design meeting be like at the Silos? Will Chip remember his twelfth anniversary?

Baylor University graduates Chip and Joanna Gaines meet with two other Baylor alumni, Lori and Baron Craft, to tour three different houses in Waco. The Crafts live in Houston, but are looking to purchase a second home near the university in hopes that their 12-year-old son will one day live in the house and continue the family's Baylor legacy. With a budget of $160,000, Baron and Lori are looking for a three-bedroom house full of Old Waco character. The first house they visit, the Brick House, has an awkward closed-in porch in front that looks like it belongs in the back of the house. Inside, however, the house has a lot of old character and built-in detail that holds a lot of potential. The next house they tour is the Power House in one of the most historical neighborhoods in Waco. While the house has a lot of vintage charm and a huge backyard, the house would need all new electrical wiring, which means a lot more work. Is the character of the Power House worth the amount of renovation it requires? The Black and White House is the last stop on the Craft's tour. It lacks some of the character of the other two houses, but with beautiful hardwood floors and a cute layout on the inside, Joanna assures the Crafts that their budget is more than enough to transform the space into the house of their dreams. The Crafts face a tough decision: Which house will become their new home away from home?

Their budget of $450,000 allows them a lot of flexibility for renovations, so Chip and Joanna take them on a tour of three houses in the area that couldn't be more different. The first stop on their tour is a large ranch-style home Chip calls the 'House in the Woods.' The next house feels like a step backward in time.
