The rolling hills surrounding Waco, Texas are beckoning Todd and Lexia Meek. Todd grew up on a ranch and loves the idea of raising his kids in the same spirit of country living. They're looking for a house with several acres of land, as well as a big kitchen and lots of space to entertain. With a total budget of $359,000, they're hoping that Chip and Joanna can surprise them with an outside-the-box rural renovation. Even so, Todd and Lexia are taken aback when find their first stop is not a home, but a horse barn! The next house they visit is the "Dilapidated Duo." The house is small and dumpy, and it would require a lot of extra additions to create the space their family is hoping for. "The Ranch House" is the last house the Meeks visit on their real estate tour. To their relief, this last option actually looks like a real house!

Jeff and Sara Jones are Baylor sweethearts and newlyweds, returning to Waco to find a house where they can settle down and one day raise a family. Their all-in budget is $235,000 and they're hoping to find a house with three bedrooms, a big kitchen, and a big backyard in the Mountainview area. The first house they visit is the 'Beach House,' aptly named after the brightly painted surf-themed bedroom they find on the tour. Chip and Joanna bring the Joneses to 'The Schoolhouse' next. The Schoolhouse is much bigger and has a beautiful backyard, but is also more expensive, which would mean less flexibility in their renovation budget. Their last option is the 'Red Door House.' While the house isn't in the Mountainview area like they were hoping, Sara and Jeff are impressed by its character and curb appeal.

Ken and Kelly Downs are a recently wed couple looking for a home they can both call their own. They've outgrown Ken's small bachelor pad and hope to find a place that reflects both of their individual styles. With a budget of $250,000 in Waco, Texas, they are looking for a home with wood floors, an open kitchen, and his and hers office space. The first house they visit is the "Chalk Ranch House," named after the large chalkboard wall in one of the bedrooms. Kelly isn't a fan of the brick exterior, but she agrees that a little paint would be a great improvement. The second house, the "Cutie Tudor," is quaint and only needs relatively few updates. It already has a layout convenient for a large master suite, but the biggest project would be renovating the kitchen. The last house is a wild card that Chip throws into the mix. He calls it the "Three Little Pigs House" because it seems so old and weathered, a stiff wind could blow it down like the wolf in the children's folk tale.

Cameron and Jessie Bell currently live in a 690 square foot house and love the cozy charm of small-scale living. While they're not necessarily looking for a larger space, they do want a place to call their own; and they need Chip and Joanna's help. They're looking for the character of an older home, and aren't afraid to brave the filth and grime that comes with years of disrepair. The first house they visit is nicknamed "The Duplex House." Formerly a duplex, as the name suggests, it has a more closed off and quirky layout that will need some opening up. "The Transition House" is next, with highlighter-green paint on the exterior and an overall ravaged appearance on the inside. Last, they visit "The Shotgun House." This house is also abandoned, falling apart, and is the smallest of the three. Because it is a shotgun house, all the rooms are conjoined, making for very little privacy in the bedroom.
