Behind the Scenes of a Midcentury Reno With Love It or List It's Contractor Nov 12, 2015

We're loving this bright, open midcentury modern reno featured on 'Love it or List It.' Go behind the build with LIOLI contractor Eric Eremita and learn how to recreate the look in your home.

Master Bathroom with Storage

This new master bathroom was located where the old second floor kitchen was previously. Double vanities, bright wall sconces, and large mirrors create plenty of space for the family. Storage was created under the vanities, and near the toilet opposite the shower. Textured gray ceramic tiles and clean white walls create a bright and modern atmosphere. A wall mounted towel warmer adds convenience and comfort.

Contemporary, Neutral Home Office Nook

The space that was once a small bedroom made a perfect home office nook. Some much-needed storage cabinets and a stairway to the home's lower level were also built into the area, as seen on HGTV's Love It or List It, Too.

Open Kitchen and Dining Room With Warm Wood Accents

In this open kitchen and dining room, warm wood elements connect the two spaces with their simple lines and earth tones. To balance the stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, cool gray dining chairs were paired with the wood dining table.

Modern Open Concept Kitchen

Hilary's design on this open concept kitchen for HGTV's hit show Love It or List It incorporates clean lines and subtle contrast. From the clean, white cabinets to the gray backsplash and countertop, this kitchen uses its neutral colors to give it a tidy feel. The dark bar chair and the soft colors of the napkins and canisters help to soften the stark colors of this neutral kitchen.

Transitional Design in Master Bedroom

Love It or List It's Hilary Farr completed this bedroom redesign with a palette of complimentary natural colors. She pulled in natural elements, such as the natural wood headboard, newly refinished wood floors, and natural bedside tables, to accentuate the relaxation guests feel as soon as they enter this room. Touches like the framed pictures above each night table and the added bedside lights help to modernize the space to meet the needs of a busy family.

Traditional Dining Room with Polished Accents

Hilary's design for this traditional dining room incorporates a bold wall color and polished accents to compliment the rich design of the dining room table. The brass picture frames, mixed metal candle sticks, and fresh exotic flowers add to the luxuriousness of the room.

Contemporary Kitchen With Chalkboard Wall

As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It, the renovated kitchen is now located where the old dining room once was. A window was closed up to make room for the new stove and countertop area. A large kitchen island with double sink basins now separates the dining area from the kitchen, and provides a casual eating spot. Modern pendant lighting adds a rich golden color to the dramatic black walls and red bar stools.

Contemporary Country Neutral Living Room

As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It, the new kitchen is located where the old, small living room previously was. The walls on the first floor have been removed, creating an open modern floor plan with views to both the living room and dining area. Updated kitchen cabinetry, new appliances, a decorative tile backsplash and the elongated central island make the new kitchen the center of life on the first floor. Finally, new window treatments, colorful pillows and updated recessed and pendant lighting give a modern and fun vibe throughout.

Functional Dining Room

As seen on HGV's Love It or List It, the new kitchen table and banquette, as well as the stairs that lead to the basement, are moved so that they are less cluttered than their original arrangement. Previously, this was the kitchen.

Chalk Paint Outlines Play Space

As seen on HGTV's Love It or List It, the design for the Jowett family's basement uses chalk pain to denote the play areas for the kids.
