Season 1, Episode 9

Small Town Life for a Growing Family

A Chicago woman moves her family from the big city to a small town in Mississippi. She's looking for a family-friendly house for her kids and future grandchild with room to entertain and a private oasis for herself. With a comfortable budget, Ben and Erin show her two homes: one with an unwelcoming exterior and an interior that's a bit dated, and another home that's smaller with very little character. Despite the limitations, Ben and Erin overcome their obstacles and wow the family with the home of their dreams.

Contemporary White Dining Room with White Oak Dining Table

As seen on Home Town, the Walker's Laurel, MS existing dining room was cold and uninviting was a dark stain on the existing wood floor and a single door in the wall to access the wall paneled kitchen. After the renovations, their dining room now flows right into the large kitchen and features the original hardwood floor refinished, updated furnishings, a custom built white oak buffet table and a custom designed wallpaper wall that host Erin Napier hand drew and sent off to have the wallpaper created for the Walker residence.

White Mid-century Modern Kitchen with Gray Kitchen Island

As seen on Home Town, the Walker's Laurel, MS existing kitchen was dark and outdated with wood paneling on all the walls, old metal cabinets, and a refrigerator stuck in the opposite corner from the kitchen. After the renovations, their Laurel, MS kitchen now features new hardwood floors, a complete redesign of the kitchen with bright walls, new cabinets, concrete countertops, a large island for entertaining, a new tile backsplash and bright colors to help the room stand out.

Mid-century Modern Living Room Neutral Hardwood Floors

As seen on Home Town, the Walker's Laurel, MS existing living room was cold and uninviting with a dark stain on the existing wood floor and a solid entry door allowing minimal light into the large open space. After the renovations, their Laurel, MS living room now gives the feeling of being wide open and flows nicely from the full glass entry door into the living and dining areas. The living room features the original refinished hardwood floor, new curtains, and blind, updated furnishings and custom art designed by Mia's younger son Bryce. Host Erin Napier said the floors had to be sanded three times to get the old dark stain completely removed to allow the natural color of the wood to show again.

New lower cabinets painted in bold ocean blue stand out sharply against the white subway tile and light gray concrete countertops.

The living room features the original refinished hardwood floor, new curtains, and blind, updated furnishings and custom art designed by Mia's younger son Bryce.
