After the renovations, their dining room now flows right into the large kitchen and features the original hardwood floor refinished, updated furnishings, a custom built white oak buffet table and a custom designed wallpaper wall that host Erin Napier hand drew and sent off to have the wallpaper created for the Walker residence.
New lower cabinets painted in bold ocean blue stand out sharply against the white subway tile and light gray concrete countertops.
As seen on Home Town, the Walker's Laurel, MS existing kitchen was dark and outdated with wood paneling on all the walls, old metal cabinets, and a refrigerator stuck in the opposite corner from the kitchen. After the renovations, their Laurel, MS kitchen now features new hardwood floors, a complete redesign of the kitchen with bright walls, new cabinets, concrete countertops, a large island for entertaining, a new tile backsplash and bright colors to help the room stand out.
The living room features the original refinished hardwood floor, new curtains, and blind, updated furnishings and custom art designed by Mia's younger son Bryce. Host Erin Napier said the floors had to be sanded three times to get the old dark stain completely removed to allow the natural color of the wood to show again.
The header above the opening was replaced with a single support beam and raised, also helping to open up the two spaces and create more headroom.
As seen on Home Town, the existing exterior of the Walker's Laurel, MS house was lost on the street with the old wrought iron fencing and overgrown vegetation. After the renovations, their Laurel, MS house now features a wide open view to the street with new landscaping, painted brick, a new glass entry door and warm cypress wood siding at the front porch.
Erin's design plan called for reconfiguring the kitchen layout, adding a refrigerator enclosure, removing the peninsula and creating a new center island, with bar seating, positioned lengthwise in the space.
The original hardwood flooring has been restored and given a new and lighter finish that better highlights the natural grain. The floors had to be sanded three times to remove the old, dark stain, allowing the natural color and grain of the wood to show through.
