Blanche Garcia's Design Portfolio
Blanche, an interior designer from Montclair, N.J., joins the cast of HGTV Design Star season six. Take a peek at the designs that earned her a spot on the show.
Sleek Bachelor's Pad
The homeowner for this bachelor pad is in the restaurant business, and he relocated from New York City to New Jersey. To suit the bachelor's active lifestyle, Garcia keeps the furniture clean and modern. A color palette of charcoal and chocolate is both elegant and masculine.
Modern Bachelor's Living Room
Garcia wanted the main living space to be young, vibrant and fun for when the homeowner is entertaining friends, so she creates a focal wall of burnt orange. To bring a little New York City into the design, Garcia commissions artwork by a graffiti artist for the living room.
Sophisticated White Master Bedroom
The homeowner loves the Delano Hotel in Miami, so Garcia took her inspiration from there for the master bedroom. Since it's a small space, the furniture is kept to a minimum and low to the floor.
Romantic yet Streamlined Bedroom
The master bedroom is designed in neutral cool tones for the man of the house but with soft lines and feminine patterns for the lady of the house. Their existing bed was turned into a canopy bed by adding fabric to create a little romance.
Modern Luxurious Entryway
For a historic show house, Garcia creates a space that shows green can go glam. Original beams are kept while the ceilings are hand-glazed in non-VOC paint. The console table is custom made in bamboo.
Simply Stylish Nook
Beside the stairway, Garcia creates a nook with a console table, elegant seat and bamboo and cotton fabrics.
Glam and Sustainable
To continue the green in the show house seating area, the walls are hand-glazed in a non-VOC paint using three layers. The sofa is covered in cotton and filled with recycled bottles made into cushions. Garcia also brings in antique chairs and tables, the perfect way to stay sustainable and glamorous.
The show house bar area is infused with a modern 1940s lounge look. The antiqued glass mirror and the Lucite stools are custom made, while the bar is made out of bamboo to keep the space green.
The custom-designed kitchen is washed in a butter yellow tone to add a pop of color. The Moroccan style print on the stools adds a modern feel to the space.
Playful Boy's Bedroom
Noah's Ark is infused into this little boy's room since that's what he loved. The wallpaper has animal prints in a tone-on-tone application to keep it from being too juvenile. Garcia also accents with a sea blue hue that is carried into in his bathroom.
Crisp and Clean Bathroom
The sea blue glass floor is designed to look like the ocean floor and picks up the Noah's Ark theme from this little boy's bedroom. His walls are hand pinstriped to add pattern to the otherwise classic space.
Old World-Inspired Kitchen
This traditional kitchen is designed to be the main gathering place of the home. The appliances are custom paneled to flow seamlessly with the rest of the cabinetry, and the stove backsplash features honey onyx with a metal pencil inset.
Garcia uses neutrals with a touch of raspberry to keep this sunroom bright and cheery. The chandelier is a work of art that adds an eclectic feel to the space.
Casual Living Room
The custom entertainment unit is hand-painted by an artist to give it the appearance of a piece of furniture. Many paint layers are used to achieve the depth of color shown.
Kitchen Office Area
This desk area is designed as part of the kitchen for the lady of the house. The chair fabric coordinates with the color of the custom window treatments.
Designed for a professional athlete and his brother, Garcia's goal was to keep the home young and modern. In addition, the client wanted to feel like he was living in his own nightclub. The bedroom wall acts as the headboard and is covered in tufted vinyl with studded nail heads. The ceiling is hand done using real silver leaf.
Cool, Comfy Bedroom
The brother's room lacked storage so a closet and entertainment wall is designed to take up a whole wall. Light-colored fabrics and walls balance the dark wood of the cabinetry, and a stylish light fixture adds a bit of bling to the space.
Sleek Living Room
The custom rug is made out of albino cow and the leather ottoman rotates. The light panels offer ambient lighting and act as pieces of art.
Clean and Modern Dining Room
Fabric mobile panels are able to close off the dining room for privacy. The ceiling is lacquered in orange red to reflect the modern crystal chandelier.
Classic Boy's Bedroom
Garcia gradated the walls of this boy's bedroom from darkest to lightest on the top by the ceiling to create the illusion of height.
Garcia creates the illusion of a larger space in this connecting bath for two pre-teen boys by carrying the slate subway tile from the floor all the way up the main wall. Designed to grow with the boys, the bathroom features a modern, streamlined vanity and fixtures.
Chic Doctor's Office Entryway
For a doctor's urgent care walk-in clinic located in New York City, Garcia designs a space that is modern and upscale. For artwork in the entryway, she creates a large graphic of the client's logo. The parameter is lit to accent the artwork, as well as acting as signage that can be seen through the adjacent windows to the street.
Modern Doctor's Office
The computer rendering is of the discharge area of the doctor's urgent care walk-in clinic. The area is broken up into six waiting areas each equipped with a flat-screen TV. Large resin panels flank the entryway and are lit from above.
Expansive Great Room
This family room was constructed in ten days including a new fireplace surround, millwork, stripping the floors and all new window treatments and furniture. Garcia creates a focal point out of the large fireplace by using paint and molding detail.
Contemporary Living Room
An accent wall of sophisticated gray is created with Venetian plaster, while a light blue on the adjacent wall keeps the space light and airy. Streamlined furnishings give the space a contemporary feeling.
