Pure Pergola Bliss

This five-bedroom home had lots of potential but needed a full renovation of both the inside and outside. With a more than $100,000 investment into the backyard alone, the end result is nothing short of spectacular.

BEFORE: The Exterior

Christina says the front of the home looked like a gingerbread house straight out of a fairytale. Its funky accents needed modernizing to up its curb appeal.

BEFORE: The Backyard

Behind the house sat an unusually large-sized backyard that wrapped all the way around to the side. Bonus: There was already a pool!

BEFORE: The Backyard

OK, the pool needed work. A lot of work. But with help from a landscape designer, Christina and Tarek went all in on turned the backyard from an outdated mess to...

...a modern oasis! Replastering the nearly 12-foot-deep pool and replacing all of the old brick with modern stone pavers transformed the vibes of this outdoor space.

The deck for the entertaining area pulls your eye toward a floating TV screen and is covered by a pergola with fire cage posts.

Not one inch of the new backyard contains dead or wasted space, with an entertaining area, a barbecue with bartop seating, a custom spa, the pool and a fire pit.

AFTER: The Spa

The custom spa was modeled after a wine press -- the thing wineries have for grape stomping -- and is half in and half out of the ground to serve as more of a design feature than just a hole in the yard.

AFTER: The Exterior

With new landscaping, a fresh paint job and new windows, the house's curb appeal has been seriously improved.

Another California flip has clean lines and some interesting features but is in serious need of a paint job.

BEFORE: The Backyard

It wasn't much to look at before, but the home's backyard served as a blank slate for Tarek and Christina to get super creative.

The dead space around the back of the house proved to be the perfect place for...

A firepit!

A new custom deck with hickory stain modernizes the space and ties it back to the updates in the house. The waterfall feature incorporates glass mosaic tile that is used in both the inside kitchen and bathrooms, as well.

The custom barbecue includes a bartop with a TV and seating.

After dark, the firepit and the outdoor lighting in the waterfall feature and throughout the backyard totally transform the feel of this formerly neglected outdoor space.
