Classic American

Joanna and Chip upgraded and expanded an 800-square-foot house built in the 1940s to create this warm, inviting home for a sweet couple.

Light and Airy

The living space was changed dramatically making it feel more open yet comfortable and soothing.

A New Center

The expanded kitchen becomes the heart of the home, with a large island providing a work surface as well as a gathering place for guests and grandkids.

Making Laundry Day Fun

Joanna suggests taking a room that's simple and utlitarian, like a pantry or the laundry room seen here, and looking for ways to make it more fun and inviting.

Redefined Master

Joanna uses light and texture to redefine the overall feel of the newly expanded master bedroom.

Soothing Retreat

The master bath was expanded and upgraded. Twin vanities were added and the walls painted in a tranquil blue-green.

Home Grown

A highlight in the large backyard is the vegetable garden, which Joanna helped expand and refine.

RG III

Chip and Joanna meet with NFL quarterback Robert Grifin III. Robert started the 'Family of 3 Foundation' to give back to his community and to help deserving individuals in need. Robert's parents both serve in the military, and helping out retired veterans, showing them the appreciation they deserve, is one of his personal ambitions.

Team Effort

Robert's current project is helping out retired Vietnam veteran Bill Graham and his wife Sherry. He recruits Chip and Joanna to help.

BEFORE

The home of Bill and Sherry Graham was built in 1948, is about 800 square feet, has two bedrooms and one just one small bath.

AFTER

Joanna's design plan called for extending the front porch to make home's entry feel larger and dressing up the exterior with fresh paint, a new front door, black shutters and exterior sconces.

Demo Day

Robert and Chip join forces on major demolition that includes removing an exterior wall to make way for a major expansion.

In the foyer, an old hardwood floor was re-planed and repurposed to create an accent wall. A unique metal-art wall hanging was custom created by Jimmy Don Holmes of JDH Iron Designs in Crawford, Texas. The piece was given to homeowner Bill Graham by Chip and Joanna as a tribute to his service to the country.

BEFORE

Joanna recommended opening up a wall that separates the kitchen from the living space, creating a more open floorplan.

AFTER

The kitchen now opens onto the main living area, creating a unified and visually coordinated space.

Kitchen, AFTER

The kitchen now not only opens onto the living room, but its footprint also extends into a new dining area.
