Materials and Tools:

  • leather remnant
  • iron-on fusing
  • fabric scissors
  • fabric pen
  • iron
  • yardstick

Cut Leather

Measure your tablet. Measure and mark the leather remnant horizontally at 22" using a yard stick and fabric pen. Measure and mark vertically at 10", and connect the marks creating a rectangle that is 22" long by 10" high. Cut out the black lines on the leather with fabric scissors. Note: Measurements are for an iPad.

Attach Fusing

Measure and mark a piece of iron-on fusing at 9-1/2" wide by 21-1/2" long, and cut with fabric scissors. Center the fusing on the inside of the leather piece, and iron to the leather.

Sew Seam

Place the tablet onto the fusing and fold the leather over, leaving the edge about 1/4" short of covering the tablet completely. Mark the corners on each side with a fabric pen. Sew the seam and continue the stitch around the perimeter of the leather flap, leaving an opening to slide the tablet in.

Sew Strip

Measure and mark a long thin leather strip (1/2" wide by about 30" long) out of the remaining piece of leather. Cut the leather strip out using fabric scissors. Center the strip on the inside of the flap approximately 2" in from the edge, and sew the strip to the flap.

Insert Tablet

Insert tablet into pocket, fold flap over and wrap leather strap around case.
