How to Make a Hollywood Regency Table
Materials and Tools:
1" square hardwood dowels
miter box
hand saw
12" mirror tile
2" brad nails
wood glue
wood filler
spray primer
gold spray paint
drill and 1/4" drill bit
1/4" shelf support pegs
Cut Wood Dowels
Measure and cut 4 pieces of a 1" square hardwood dowel at 24" using a miter box and hand saw. Measure and cut 8 pieces of 1" square hardwood dowels at 12" to create cross supports.
Assemble Table
Attach two legs to two cross pieces to create a basic rectangle. Adhere using wood glue and 2” brad nails. Repeat this process, and connect the two rectangles together with another cross piece.
Drill for Shelf Pegs
Measure the thickness of the mirror, and add it to the measurement from the top of wood piece to the center of the peg to get ½”. Measure down ½” inch on the inside of the top square, and make two marks about an inch from the corner on opposite sides of the frame. Drill holes where marks were made using a 1/4” drill bit, making sure not to drill all the way through.
Drill holes in table base where the shelf pegs will go.
Insert Pegs
Insert shelf support pegs and double check that the mirror sits exactly how you want it before moving on. Remove the mirror and the shelf support pegs before moving to the next step.
Sand Wood
Wood fill any nail holes. Once the wood filler is dry (about 30 minutes), lightly sand these areas and any additional areas that might need to be smoothed out.
Spray Wood
Spray sanded areas with primer to ensure a smooth finish. Once dry, spray paint the piece gold. Let dry.
Add Finishing Touches
Once the paint is dry, insert the shelf support pegs and add the mirror to the top.
